Song: Walk All Over God’s HeavenSong by: Etta JamesPhoto credit: Roland Godefroy - Self-photographed/Wikipedia Usage: CC BY-SA 3.0All vocals by: Gail NoblesKeyboardist and drummer by: Gail NoblesEtta James was a blues singer, but I must say she could do it all. She also could sing the Gospel. She had great gospel hits like: Amen/ This Little Light of MineDown by the Riverside We’ll Fly You to the Promised LandWalk All Over God’s Heaven …Just to name a few.Etta was more than just a blues singer. I don’t see much information about her singing gospel. It is said that James was once considered one of the most overlooked blues and R&B musicians in the music history of the United States. In my opinion, I think James was overlooked for gospel too because like I said, she could do it all, and she was great in every genre. In order for Etta James to sing gospel the way that she did, she must have had heaven in her heart. She had the right kind of voice for gospel. Etta could shout. (Singing) I consider Etta James a great gospel singer. If she had gospel hits, she must have helped gospel get some attention. I believe the spirit of the Lord was upon Etta when she sang the gospel. Not everybody can sing gospel, but Etta James could though she sang the blues. She had a voice. God gave it to her. I’m glad that Etta James left us some great gospel music. Etta James had a birthday this month on Jan. 25. She was born 1938. She left us Jan. 20, 2012. I hope you have enjoyed this episode, Etta James - Gospel. You’re listening to a show about the gospel greats. I’m your host, Gail Nobles.
